6p Learning to be “Wowed by Kids:” Working Together to Build Wonder for Students’ Mathematical Thinking and Learning

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

In this presentation, I will share an aspect of teacher learning that I found to be powerful in my dissertation study: learning to be impressed by students’ mathematical thinking. I will share how I found that one teacher worked with her coach to engage in this learning. Then participants will consider how they could engage in similar work together with their colleagues to deepen their appreciation for their students’ smart math thinking. We will try out a group discussion protocol to support teachers to do this learning together and we will reflect on what happens. Teachers can take this discussion protocol back to their schools and adapt it to work for their own teacher communities.
